TARA!! YO!

Love how much thought YOU put into your brilliant comment. WOW – can’t wait to learn more about your important work in the world.

Personal Growth? We’re best friends now. Yes, I also come from that world – use it and share it every day. It’s brilliant, important and we need more people like you who help people heal, grow and contribute to something greater than themselves.

Yes, I think the hidden obstacle we all face at work and very few acknowledge – is that people are extremely and constantly distracted. Creating something for work without understanding that people cannot pay attention to it, without the right strategy and psychology – is like making pasta for someone who can’t eat gluten.

…decent metaphor, right?

Right.

Keep me posted how you use PowToon for your awesome work : )

Stay awesome and keep rocking Tara!

Ari

Ari, what a well-researched, well-written, and incredibly helpful post. I actually work in personal growth with a specific focus on reprogramming old belief patterns to help people break negative experience patterns and activate mind-body healing, and the information about inhibitory neurons and how children are open sponges (but adults, not so much) is spot on. And you are 100% right – the only way for an adult to bypass those walls and activate the learning centers of the brain is through emotion. Emotion activates the neural pathways and programs the new information into the mind; without it, it’s very hard to break a habit or change your thinking in any meaningful way. (That’s actually one of the reasons that repeating an affirmation over and over isn’t super helpful; if you are not connecting with any positive emotion, it’s just words.)

In addition, the learning styles information is critical! I’m always telling clients that if I tell a person who is an auditory learner to “close their eyes and visualize something,” all I am doing is frustrating them, because they will close their eyes and only see the back of their eyelids. (Not very effective, needless to say!) Because of that, I give my clients a short learning style assessment so that I can create an action plan that WILL work for them, in the way they learn best.

However, your crossover idea on using this information with a corporation to communicate better is awesome. My husband is an IT director for a big company; I’m going to forward this to him, because I he has a heck of a time getting people to pay attention to important meetings (or the little details that are boring but need to be done).

Anyway, sorry for the long comment, but I love seeing other people taking the time to do the research on this kind of stuff. Terrific post. Have a great day –
Tara :o)

I am involved with professional development for my school and I’ve created a wiki that very few of our staff actually read. Probably because it’s dry educational theory. I’ve been playing with Powtoons (I also teach art and computers) but now I see them in a whole new light. I love the explanations. I agree with Lynda Dube Turgeon, that a news template would be very useful. Thanks, Ari!
