How to give an effective presentation

When giving a presentation there is no question that you want to do anything and everything in your power to keep your audience both captivated and engaged. This, however, is much easier said than done. By using the Powtoon platform, coupled with a few of our quick tips on effective and engaging presenting, you will have your target audiences eating out of the palm of your hand in no time!

Quick tip #1: Present like a politician

Let’s be totally honest, the primary goal of any politician is to get votes. In order to do this you better believe that when they address an audience they are captivating, interesting, and good at convincing people that they have all the answers. So what, you might ask, are some ways that they initially grab their respective audiences? Here’s one suggestion:

When preparing a script for your animated presentation think about telling a story that will grab your listeners’ attention right off the bat. Politicians often use this technique, and rather than presenting the straight, hard facts, they tell a touching story. Through a simple anecdote they are able to enhance a connection with the audience who can then better relate to the content being presented. So how would a politician tell YOUR story? Think about that question when preparing your next presentation, and it might just give you that edge you were looking for.

Here’s one example:

A doctor wants to show how a new treatment can reduce repeat visits to his clinic:

The sleep inducing way to present this: Chart the data on a graph, show it on the screen, and repeat verbally the information that is already being shown… I’m snoozing already

The Powtoon method for presenting this: The doctor opens with a personal story about Mary, a 64 year-old-patient who visits the clinic frequently to keep up with her blood work, exams, or any other health concerns. The doctor then explains that through his treatment she can significantly decrease her number of visits, which will consequently allow her to spend more time at home with her family.

BAM!! Instant captivation! Most likely at least a few people in the audience have grandmothers (or are grandmothers) and can personally relate to this story, thus making the content of the presentation appealing on a personal level.

In conclusion, though we may not always love our politicians (in fact the word “love” and “politics” rarely find themselves in the same sentence), there is no doubt that we can learn a lot about effective presenting from them!
